When Does Breast Reduction Make Sense?

Sounds crazy, right? Why in the world would any full-blooded woman want to actually reduce the size of her breasts?. Women spend hours shopping for the right bras that maximize what they’ve got. For those who don’t feel that they have enough, they’re willing to save until they can afford breast enlargements.

But there are women out there, who for them, breast reduction surgery makes sense. Who are these women? Usually, they have had the genetic “misfortune” of having naturally large breasts. For these women, their large breast size has created problems for them. Breast reduction surgery makes sense for women when:

· Bra straps cut into their shoulders, leaving painful marks.
Imagine blisters and scarring, actually, from bra straps.

· Back ache and pain result from carrying the excessive weight of
really large breasts.

· Their breast size prevents activities such as exercise, sports and dancing.

· They feel self conscious in some or all clothes. Sure, just about everybody with a normal body shape would feel self concious at the beach if they haven’t been dieting or working out. But imagine having to limit one’s wardrobe so that they looked like they were from the 18th century? Turtlenecks only work in the winter. Clingy materials, swimsuits, revealing dresses – all of these fashions are off limits to women who feel self conscious about their breast size. The other problem is that women with breasts that seem out of proportion to their body size will have problems finding clothes that fit them correctly. The tops will either always be too tight across the bust or too baggy around the rest of the body.

· Their breasts size make sleeping in some positions uncomfortable. Women who have been pregnant can remember what it felt like trying to get comfortable with that extra ten pounds on top of their tummies. But what about women with large breasts? Finding comfortable sleep positions can be difficult. Sleep bras are often required.

· Their breasts are not the same size. In this case, breast augmentation is an option but many women elect to reduce the larger breast to get both breasts to look more evenly sized.

· Women feel that their breast sizes are not aligned with who they are. Some women want their breast size to be part of the total package and not the first and only thing men notice when they meet them.

Breast reductions are not covered by medical insurance unless they can
be shown as medically necessary. Fortunately, most countries and states have set standards for what insurance companies must accept in order to provide coverage. Medically necessary reasons that have been covered for beast reduction surgery includes back ache, shoulder pain, and skin ulcerations under the breasts.
